It's always an exciting time for a lover of lingerie to see the new season collections.  This Spring is no exception, with some pretty and fresh designs already making their way into the shops.  Colours are vibrant, marine inspired with hints of retro throw back in the form of polka dots and tartans.  This season is all about being girly and embracing the pin up in you.

Here's some of the hottest bras I've got my eye on.

Cleo 'Marcie' in Aquamarine D-J

Freya 'Totally Tartan' B-K

Panache 'Jasmine' in Floral Print D-K

Bravissimo 'Pretty As A Pin Up' DD-K

Boux Avenue 'Jenny' in Gingham - A-DD

Ewa Michalak 'S Fresh' E-GG

Which new collection have you got your eye on this month?

There's a bra revolution going on and if you've not had a proper bra fit recently, you need to get back to school - Boob School!

Bravissimo, the D+ bra specialists long championing the 'no tape measure' bra fit, have just launched Boob School, a lighthearted bra education guide that simply shows you whether you're wearing the correct bra size and how to recognise the signs of a poorly fitting bra.  Why is this so important?  As a nation we've long been suffering bras that just aren't right for us.   Bras 'gone bad' are to blame for health problems, discomfort, poor posture and unsightly lumps and bumps, so you see, we need to get these bra boobs sorted out once and for all!

Bravissimo's cute polka dot print 'Pretty as a Pin Up' Bra Set

I was asked by Bravissimo to attend the launch event of Boob School at the end of February which I sadly couldn't make, but it's such a brilliant concept I just had to pass the word on.

With lingerie now available in our supermarkets and online, bra buying has become a no brainer.  At the very least, you see a bra you like, you find your size and you throw it in your basket.  At the most, you try it on in the shop's changing rooms and have a brief tousle about the straps and check yourself out in the mirror.  But, how many of us actually know what to look for when deciding if a bra actually fits as it should?  Judging by the over keen cleavage and bouncing boobs so many women sport these days, most of us don't know a thing.

Bring in Boob School's Seven Classes to 'avoid the common bra faux pas'

The Quadraboob is a beast I've been guilty of myself in the past.  Commonly experienced - and seen - when a bra's cups are too small to contain the boobs, creating a 'four boob' effect.

To see if you're a victim of the quadraboob, look at yourself sideways in the mirror and see the outline shape of your bust and bra.  The quadraboob is also evident beneath a tight top.  You need a bra with a larger cup.

The Super Drooper is a very sad bra; no lift, no support, no life.  Your bra may be sitting too low on your body to support your boobs.

This is usually down to a wider band than is necessary, inadequately adjusted straps and sometimes too large a cup.  This bra really doesn't want to be there.

The Ledge is severe, full frontal and literally in your face!  There's cleavage and then there's the ledge, where boobs sit too high in an unnatural, pushed upwards direction.

A combination of a too small cup size and a small band is usually to blame.

Side Boob is not a pretty sight and not very comfortable.  You may be guilty of side boobage if you have visible bulging of flesh beneath or around your armpits.
Side boob happens when cups are not large or wide enough to accommodate all parts of the boob.  Boobs aren't always just to the front of the body; wide set boobs and larger busts often continue around the side of the body.  Increase your cup size to fully encase your boobs.

The High Rider is one of the most commonly seen signs of a wrong bra size.  Boobs are not supported and easily bounce when you walk or run.
The band of a bra should always lie horizontally around your back to the direct opposite side of your cups.  A band that rides up, is loose and gives when you pull the band away from the body and sits high up on the back is too wide.  A smaller band number is needed for a proper fit.

Wrinkling of fabric or empty unfilled spaces make for a saggy bra.  Saggy Cups can show through clothing as random folds and creases underneath clothing.

Bras come in different shapes and materials, as well as sizes.  Saggy cups can occur when the cup size is too big, but it's also not uncommon to find certain styles of bra may not fit your boob shape.  Try a different bra shape to see if the cups fit neater around the boob and a smaller cup.

The Big Stand Off happens when your bra literally stands away from your body; underwires won't sit directly beneath the boob against your ribcage and the central gore will stand away from laying flat against the sternum.

A too large band is guilty of the stand off.  Try a bra with a smaller band for a better, closer fit.

So, now you know what you look for in an ill fitting bra.  Go and have a look in the mirror now - what's your bra doing?  Better still, go and get a proper bra fitting for FREE at your nearest Bravissimo.

It will change your life, not just your bust.

In one week's time my 31st birthday will be upon me - yipee!  A time for indulgence, treats and personal gratification.  I like to milk my birthday for what it's worth and I allow myself guilt-free requests such as magazines, pampering, new clothes and anything else that takes my fancy.  Okay, it's not that different from the norm but it's always an enjoyable time never the less.  :-)

For a bit of fun I thought I'd look through the virtual shopping aisles and pick out my favourite lingerie and homeware pieces.  There's nothing quite like a bit of imagination splurging!

First to go into my birthday basket is the Freya 'Beau' bra set (28H) in the new colourway, Lollipop, due out February (how convenient?!)  When the 'candy' Beau came out last year it did nothing for me, in fact the colour made me dislike it.  Now it's going to be in this juicy, fruity pink colour, I love it!  I'm obsessed!

I love burning candles and my favourite brand is by far Yankee Candle.  I've been enjoying them for about twelve years now and I'm as yet to come across such quality home fragrances elsewhere.  Having sniffed a sneak peek of forthcoming scents I knew I'd want A Child's Wish when it comes out.  It's floral but really fresh and spring-like.

I think cushions are one of those things I'm pretty obsessed about.  I fall for cushions so easily and so often, my sofas and bedroom are a crazy mismatch array of cushions!  This cushion would definitely live in the bedroom: it's awesome.  The very Party Ring-esque Celebration Biscuit cushion by Sass and Belle.

Then I would be sure to throw in the Nadin bra set by Comexim.  The design and colours are so unusual but vibrant and girly.  I love it!  I've been afraid to buy overseas though as I'm not sure what size I'd need to order.

Comexim Nadin collection

Buying a new handbag is one of my favourite past times and Nica has regularly been my go-to brand.  I've lost count how many I've bought!  I just love the texture of their fabrics and the lovely colours they use.  I would love the shoulder bag from their Nica Play range in green.  Yum!

Some shades of pink can be a bit wimpy but when I saw this clock I was smitten with the hot pink.  I can't stop looking at this Acctim clock called Lorene.  The other half probably wouldn't be very impressed but I'd be thrilled to see it everyday!

As I'm a list freak (you wouldn't believe how many lists I have on the go at any one time) stationary is always of huge interest to me, particularly pads of paper and notebooks.  I didn't see this on Dotcomgiftshop until today: the pretty Vintage Doily sticky memo pads set.  I would so enjoy myself writing up my things to do!

I've been cross stitching for 15 years and recently taken to making cushions and little cute home decorations so storage for my needles and crafty tools is essential.  Currently my boxes are practical and far from pretty so it would be nice to have some attractive storage solutions.  Button It is so far up my street, I'm sure it was made just for me.  The gorgeous colours and covetable silver buttons make them absolutely yummy.  This hot pink polka dot sewing box would be perfect for my most important bits and pieces.  Mmmm, yes please!

Christmas is the most special holiday of the calendar to me.  There's little about the festive season that doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy inside; adorning the house with a beautiful tree, baking the compulsory celebration cake and spiced cookies in the run up to the big day.  Listening to Christmas music from the carols to the classics is as mood evocative as the scented candles, but what must be one of the most self indulgent past times at this time of year is the excuse to stay indoors when the wind's blowing, snow's falling and Jack Frost is nipping at your nose.

I love snow, even more so when I'm watching it all fall romantically outside my window while I'm all toasty warm in my creature comforts.  With the fire roaring, a mug of the chocolatiest hot chocolate in my hand, the feel of an oversized fleecy dressing gown and the furriest slippers snuggling my feet feel all the more satisfying.  And there's nothing more luxurious than allowing yourself a day to kick back and chill out and concentrate on a bit of 'me time'.  Well, it is Christmas!

Which is why the theme for my Next festive shop window (the Christmas Next competition ran in conjunction with feelingstylish.co.uk) came so easily to me.  In a day and age when all we do is rush about and never stand still, Christmas seems to be the last opportunity for us to embrace the season of family life, home comforts and a little self indulgence.  Using traditional reds and Nordic patterns, this theme is all about familiar nostalgia.  My shop window encompasses this very feeling; super cosy lounge and night wear that you can throw on and chill out next to the Christmas tree, all the while wishing for snow to fall outside...

All these snuggly pieces are available from Next, from cute bunny slippers to on trend aztec print lounge pants, long line tartan bras to fair isle socks.  Time to get those last minute lists sent to Santa!

Thanks to Lingerie Heaven, this week I received Freya's new AW12 Patsy balcony bra in the black and gold colourway.  Last season saw the first Patsy when it was released in the lime green and as much as I was really attracted to the design I didn't get around to trying the bra out.  So I'm extremely thankful and excited to have this opportunity to see Patsy for real!

Front of Patsy

Back of Patsy

I tried Patsy on literally the moment after it arrived.  Before even putting the bra on I could tell it was a beauty; a polka dot pretty fit for a 50s pin up.  Although wholly mesh fabricated, it's not totally sheer, and really rather a demure, classy yet modern design.  If you're soft for vintage inspired looks Patsy will  be right up your street.  The gold spots and detailing works well against the black base.  I love the centre bows!

I know I've been lacking in the video production department, to be honest I'm not the most verbally eloquent of people and find it much easier speaking by the written word, but I was so keen to share my thoughts on this one and felt the best way of conveying such would be by recording it.  Hopefully you'll get what I'm trying to address and see that I'm just a mad bra obsessive with some helpful bits of info.  Let me know what you think of the vid!

Anyway, I was sent the 28GG which is pretty much my 'usual' bra size if ever I had just one.  I was pleased to find that the band fitted perfectly, it felt firm but not too tight.  The cups felt comfortable.  If Patsy made an H cup I may have tried it to see if it gave me slightly more room as especially on one side there was a slight bulging.  It didn't come to anything during the day's wear though so I'm not hugely concerned about it.   Often I find under wires dig in under my arms but I didn't particularly experience any discomfort during the day wearing the bra.  I would rather the centre gore fitted either a bit higher but preferably lower like a plunge as my boobs don't allow much space for the middle of a bra.  A major downer which limits what styles I can wear.

Now, the straps on this one are possibly their downfall.  I do prefer, on the whole, straps that are fully adjustable and stretchy all around but these are the first straps I've seen with so much stretch.  They are super stretchy and I can pull them away from my shoulders a mile off, and that's with the adjustment already made.  I didn't want to adjust the straps too much for fear of subjecting my shoulders to angry red marks, or worse, snapping the straps!  So with the adjusters almost to the tops of my shoulders, I felt the support was fairly okay but still allowed an immense amount of bounce.  Not very good for the ample bosom.

The second issue, admittedly not as crucial to the bra's support design but still possibly bothersome, is that the shape isn't exactly rounded but gives a fairly pointed silhouette.  I much prefer a round curvature of my bust line as opposed to triangles, but I guess considering the retro look of Patsy, it shouldn't be surprising that the pointy effect is also very 50s!

I'm not planning on running a half marathon (unless you include whipping round the shopping centre before the parking meter runs out, in which case I should probably opt for the Freya Active), and I can most likely live with a less than round boob shape.  If it's all about aesthetics - and this bra most certainly is a cute little minx - and good band support, then Patsy with her golden glints is sure to pick you up this Autumn.

Freya Patsy is available to buy right now in the plunge and half cup at Lingerie Heaven for only £26.50.

I would love to know what you think of Patsy and her fit.  Have you tried it yourself or been tempted by other gorgeous Autumn bras?
